Fichtner acts as Technical Advisor on acquisition of West Burton CCGT & BESS
Fichtner provided full technical due diligence services to EIG for the acquisition of the operational CCGT at West Burton, which includes a 49 MW Battery Energy Storage System. The transaction allowed for EIG to set up a new power generation company, West Burton Energy, to supply electricity to the UK.
The package integrator was Nidec, who utilised LG Chem battery modules for the project. The project connects to the 400 kV transmission system via the medium voltage infrastructure of the power plant and provides Enhanced Frequency Response ancillary services to National Grid.
Fichtner undertook a review of the design, operational performance, and condition of the BESS. Our team advised EIG as to the ability of the BESS to meet the technical requirements of its assumed revenue streams, system degradation to date, and the feasibility of connecting the BESS to the transmission system directly.
